On Monday my group and I went to go and meet the band who we will be using as our subject for the Production Project module. Rangoon Sons are an up and coming Liverpudlian band, made up of 2 sets of brothers, 1 of which has a cousin who is the only fully Caucasian member. The group consists of Mike, Ricky (Ricardo), Fillipe, Dan and Andres who range between the ages of 16-20 and all (apart from Mike) have South American roots. We found this fact about the group quite interesting as there aren't many British bands that have majority of their group members come from different racial backgrounds. With this in mind it was decided that we would make their roots a relatively large part of the promo video, possibly using Andres and Dan (the main Spanish speaking members of the group) to show us how they wrote and produced the one Spanish song they have. Using a handycam we were able to gather footage of the band whilst we got to know them in a bar in Liverpool city centre. Asking them questions such as why they chose Rangoon Sons as their band name, who their musical influences are, what they like to do outside of music, all helped contribute to getting a better understanding of the group.
This evening me and Ceri will be watching the band perform live at a bar in Formby, i'll let you know how it goes!
