On Friday evening,
myself and Ceri travelled down to Formby on the train to watch our
subjects, Rangoon Sons, perform at a small wine bar where they performed
a 90 minute gig. As a group we believed it was absolutely vital that we
watched the band perform in a natural setting in order for us to get a
better sense of who they are and their confidence levels when they
perform live. Unfortunately our fellow group members Emma and Mollie
couldn't make the gig on Friday due to work commitments, however it was
lucky that at least 2 of us got to see them live in action before their
acoustic/full performance in the TV Studio at uni later this year.
The
band were extremely confident whilst performing and myself and Ceri
agreed that we had chosen the perfect band to base our promotional video
on. Rangoon Sons have a cool yet engaging stage presence which is
exactly what we need to make the performance segments of the promo video
a professional looking piece.
We managed to get a free copy of their EP once they had finished performing so we could
listen to their songs when necessary and most importantly to get a
clearer understanding of the lyrics and message they like to get across
in their music, which we found was mainly relationship based.
Take a look at a short video I filmed during one of their performances (the quality of the video isn't that great due to the dim lighting in the bar)
Our next step is to meet with the TV Studio technician Elaine who will be providing us with a camera refreshment session as it has been almost a year since myself or my group mates have worked with the larger cameras in the studio. This will be followed by a meeting with the band a couple days later when we show them the studio for the first time in order to make them more familiar and comfortable with the main place in which they will be filmed for performances.
