Tech Meeting with Elaine & Kelly

Yesterday (Wednesday 27th Nov) I attended the lighting workshop held by Mark and Ian who advised us on what equipment to use and how to use it when lighting a scene. I learnt that to avoid shadows from forming, it is sometimes best to use natural light but if this isn't possible then place the light almost behind the subject, whilst avoiding obstruction of the shot and use a reflector to add more warmth to the face. A handbook was provided by the tutors however there wasn't enough to go around so when I finally recieve my own handbook I will be looking over the pointers Mark gave us to assist me in directing the band's performance of Caught me Cold in the TV Studio next Friday.
The lighting workshop was then followed by a meeting with Elaine and Kelly down in the TV Studio
as we needed to make them aware of what props we will be needing, our lighting requirements and how we will go about recording sound. The lighting for the performances was finalised and as stated in my previous blog posts, it was decided that we will be using orangey/yellows to light the performance to add a more Indie Rock element to the video. The only props we will be needing is a couch of some sort for the band to sit on whilst they perform the acoustic version of 'Caught me Cold' and possibly a metal sheet to put underneath the drumkit to prevent the floor of the TV Studio being scratched when we move the set around for the other performances. The band offered to bring in their own mics to next Fridays shoot as these are the mics they are most familiar with, however there may be a good chance they will also use the TV Studio mics in case of any technical issues that may occur during takes. Ambient sound will be used for the acoustic performance whilst a backing track will be played for the full performance of 'Caught me Cold' as Elaine suggested the overall sound comes out a lot better when the actual track is played over the video.
